Training on Pedagogy of Mathematics and Application of Olympiad Strategies in Primary level
08 July, 2022
As part of continuing professional development of the teachers of the Moanoghar Residential School, a week long training workshop on Pedagogy of Mathematics and Application of Olympiad Strategies in Primary Section was held with the teachers of the school from 3 July to 8 July 2022. This training workshop was organised under the 5-Year plan on Improving Quality of Education in the Moanoghar Residential School jointly being supported by Luciole Foundation, France and Comgest Foundation started from 2021 until December 2025.
The 5 Year Plan of the school aims at improving Mathematics and Science education and Language Skills of the students, who come from the disadvantaged ethnic background from the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) region of Bangladesh. Due to lack of proper facilities, a largest portion of the indigenous children of the CHT region complete their primary without obtaining a maximum level of competency in Mathematics, Science and general languages (Bengali and English). As such, a large number of them drop out from schools at primary or junior level.
On this backdrop, the 5 Year Plan of the Moanoghar Residential School aimed at addressing this very crucial issue in a two-pronged approach: continuing professional development of the teachers; and creating an environment and opportunities for hands-on learning of Science, Mathematics and languages.
The training workshop was facilitated by Bipam Chakma and Ripon Chakma – both are certified Master trainers for Mathematics and Science in the Primary level.
Sima Chakma, assistant teacher of Mathematics expressed her reactions about the training workshop, “training is essential for every teacher, but to me, this training was the first ever of its kind fully based on hands-on exercises throughout the week...I believe, the slow learners will be benefitted from the techniques and ideas taught during the workshop.” During the closing ceremony the other teachers also expressed their opinions in the same vein.
On 8 July, the closing ceremony was graced by Ven. Shraddhalankar Mahathera, Founding member and current President of the Moanoghar Executive Council, as the chief guest.
