Education and economic development are essential for survival

‘Education and economic development are essential for survival of the small ethnic communities’.  Aung Sui Prue Chowdhury,  Chairman of Rangamati Hill District Council, said this while he was delivering his speech as the chief guest at an inaugural function held on 4 April, 2021 at Bishakha Bhavan – the girl’s section at Moanoghar Children’s Home. He commented that the founders of Moanoghar were more ahead in that they realized this fact before four and half decades ago. He further added that Moanoghar,  through its works, has been contributing to achieving this goal for the disadvantaged communities in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
Chaired by Venerable Shraddhalankar Mahathera, the function was attended by Prasenjit Chakma, National Project Manager of the SID-CHT Project, UNDP; Col. (Retd.) Manish Dewan, representative of the endower family; Durgeshwar Chakma, Vice-President, Rangamati Sadar Upazila; and Rabi Mohan Chakma, Councilor of 6 No. Ward, Rangamati Pourashova.
The function was marked by three events: inauguration of the Wall Magazines published by the residential children of Moanoghar on the occasion of the Bangla year-end festival, hand over of a cheque for setting up the Pingala-Bimalaswa Dewan Memorial Funds; and inauguration of the renovation work of the Bishakha Bhavan.  The chairman visited the rooms of the girl’s hostel.
Col (rtd.) Manish Dewan, on behalf of the endower family handed over a cheque to Ven. Shraddhalankar to set up a memorial scholarship in the name of ‘Pingala-Bimalaswa Dewan at Moanoghar.  This fund is being set up by Arnab Dewan and his cousins in fond memory of their late grandparents who were strong supporter of education. From this endowment fund, the poor but meritorious students of Moanoghar will get support for pursuing higher studies.
