On 20 August 2023, a delegation of Moanoghar led by
Ven. Shraddhalankar Mahathera, President and a founding member of Moanoghar,
calls on Ambassador (rtd) Supradip Chakma, Chairman of the Chittagong Hill
Tracts Development Board (CHTDB) at his office. On behalf of Moanoghar, Ashok
Kumar Chakma, Executive Director, congratulated Supradip Chakma on his assuming
chairmanship of the CHTDB by offering him a floral bouquet. Other members of
the delegation were Ven. Buddha Datta Mahathera, Joint Secretary, Nanda Kishore
Chakma, Coordinator of Higher Education Program, Hobby Chakma, Administrative
Officer and Engn. Ganga Bijoy Chakma, Vice Principal of Moanoghar Institute of
Technology (MIT).
Ven. Shraddhalankar Mahathera briefed the CHTDB
Chairman the current situation and ongoing activities of Moanoghar. Ven.
Mahathera said that despite many constraints, Moanoghar as a charity has been trying
its best to provide education and care to the disadvantaged children from all over
the CHT region. He drew kind attention of the CHTDB to the urgent issues of
Moanoghar.
The CHTDB Chairman Supradip Chakma emphasised on
improving quality of education in the CHT region. He assured that he would look
into the Moanoghar’s issues positively. To work on improving quality of
education in the CHT region would be one of the top priorities of the CHTDB’s
next interventions, he added.
Supradip Chakma also requested Ven. Shraddhalankar
Mahathera to take concrete measures on inculcating the ideals of Buddhism among
the children. Referring to the current inconsistencies in Dhamma practices, he underscored
the need of disseminating the core teachings of the Buddha to the wider
Buddhist community in the CHT region. The Sangha should make efforts in this
regard. Notable that Ven. Shraddhalankar Mahathera is also the President of the
Parbatya (Hill Tracts) Bhikkhu Sangha, Bangladesh.
Recently Supradip Chakma, by order of the President of
People’s Republic of Bangladesh, had been appointed as the Chairman of the CHT
Development Board, which is a special statutory body set up in 1978 for development
in the CHT region. He was a career diplomat and served in the foreign service
as an ambassador of Bangladesh to Vietnam, Mexico and Laos.
