A 5-member delegation from the USA Embassy in Dhaka visited Moanoghar on 12 September. The delegation was consisted of Sean J. McIntosh, Counselor for Public Diplomacy, Sharlina Hussain-Morgan, Cultural Affairs Officer, Sophia Meulenberg, Political Officer, Kamrul Hassan, Political Assistant and Jonathan Gomes, Public Diplomacy Program Coordinator.
Ashok Kumar Chakma, Executive Director and Ven. Buddha Datta Mahathera, Joint General Secretary of Moanoghar, received the delegation. The delegation saw around the Moanoghar campus including the girls’ dormitory of the Moanoghar Children’s Home.
Ashok Kumar Chakma briefed the delegation about the works of Moanoghar. He told the US Embassy delegation that the key focus of Moanoghar was on education. Since its inception, Moanoghar has been working to provide education to the orphans and marginalised children from different ethnic communities of the Hill Tracts. Alongside, Moanoghar has been working on protection and promotion of cultures and languages of indigenous communities.
In courtesy of the US Embassy delegation, a cultural show was organised at the Moanoghar Central Dining Hall with participation of the children of Moanoghar.
Among others, Ven. Shraddhalankar Maharhera, President, and Nirupa Dewan, Vice President of Moanoghar, and Bijoy Kumar Joarder, Assistant Commission at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office of Rangamati were present during the visit of the US delegation.
