On 14 March 2023, Dr
Lilly Nicholls, Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, visited Moanoghar.
She was accompanied by a delegation from the Canadian High Commission to visit
the project activities supported under the Global Affairs Canada through the UNDP
SID-CHT project and BRAC in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. During her visit,
Stefan Liller, UNDP-Resident Representative to Bangladesh, and Prasenjit
Chakma, Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP, were present.
Ven. Buddha Datta
Mahathera, Joint General Secretary and Ashok Kumar Chakma, Executive Director
and Arupan Bikash Barua, Assistant Head Teacher of the Moanoghar Residential
School, received the Canadian High Commissioner and delegates.
Dr Lilly first visited
a class of the Advanced Graphic Design and Freelancing (AGDF) at the Moanoghar
Institute of Technology (MIT) followed by a tree plantation at the MIT
premises. She interacted with the students to know how they were doing with the
AGDF course. She expressed her appreciation to see the commitment of the
students and progress of the graphic design and freelancing course.
The High Commissioner
also visited a Bangla class to learn the experience of the students how they
learned languages like Bangla and English in the school.
In the conference hall
of the new academic building, BRAC in cooperation with the Moanoghar
Residential School set up stalls to showcase the activities implemented on
‘learning Bangla by the students, pedagogies of teaching specific subjects such
as English and Mathematics. Dr Lilly visited all the stalls and interacted with
the students and teachers. During the stall visit Safi Rahman Khan, Director of Education, Skills
Development & Migration and Nobonita Chowdhury, Director, Gender Justice
and Diversity at BRAC, were present.
